Welcome to the Honey Bee page !   Above & Below are my Russian Honey Bee colonies.  

  They're so docile I can walk close and pick weeds around the hives without smoking them and not get stung.

I would, however, suggest smoking them every time you wish to work with the hives internals to minimize the risk of being stung and always wear your veil.  They sense when you're afraid of them and give off pheromones that smell similar to bananas when in attack mode.


  That's my comrades.  Never FEAR these working ladies and you'll enjoy being "Sting" FREE.     A folk remedy for bee stings is a weed called Plantain. This common weed has medicinal value.  Tear off a leaf, clean, chew a bit and apply to sting once you remove the stinger for 1 minute.    Sting is gone.  Swelling and itching may last for a week.   This is one issue that your body has to develop its immune system to.  Hydrocortisone 2% or better stops the itching.   Or slice some fresh Onion and apply to sting.... Try it.

Try this:


Buy a couple Citronella plants and place in the far corners of the deck.

In the Fall, bring them into the house in a sunny window.

DO NOT WATER WITH POOL WATER OR SOFTENED WATER AS IT WILL KILL THE PLANTS.

Pollen Patty Recipe:

5 pounds (2,267.96g) of white granulated sugar

9 ounces (255.15g) of Brewers Yeast

9 ounces (255.15g) of Soy Flour

1 ounce (28.35g) of Honey Bee Healthy (If available)


In a large pot, mix 5 pounds(2,267.96g) of sugar with 2 cups water (16oz) or (453.59g).  Heat & mix syrup.

Let cool.

Add Brewers Yeast, Soy Flour and Bee's Pollen to SEPARATE pot.

Mix dry concoction by itself.

Put on rubber gloves for this as it's very sticky. Get a good sturdy mixing stick.

Now slowly add the Syrup mix to the separate pot & mix until dough like consistency

Remove mixture and spread onto WAX paper 1/2" or (12.7mm) thick.

Let dry.  Do not bake.  When dried should be like a cookie and stored in sealed container.  Leave the pollen patty on wax paper.  Remove a section of the patty on wax paper and place directly inside the hive where bees can get it.
