The essential part of gardening is WATER ! Fresh out of the rain barrel. Below, the barrel is my "Bee" Block which gives homes to bumble bees in most sizes. Beyond is the Russian Sage in bloom (purple flowers) which my bees love to collect pollen from.
The trick to organic gardening is in the soil ! Mostly composed of composted cow manure, all natural that the farmers just give away. Another trick is in crop rotation. Yet another trick is beneficial nematodes. These are microscopic worms (Yea, I know, Yuck !) that attack ANY kind of larvae in the soil. Over 200 different types of bugs get eaten from the inside out ! Make sure you get the correct type of nematode as they have a few different kinds. I'm in a northern climate so I use the cool weather type.
